However, questioning the morality behind their actions, Otonashi takes a step behind the enemy lines to understand the opposing side of their common fate.

The group's leader, Yuri Nakamura, recruits Otonashi in their fight against Angel in order to take control of their own lives. Feeling wronged by God during their earthly lives, the school's residents have decided to form the Afterlife Battlefront-a rebellious faction determined to oppose their god-like student council president, Kanade "Angel" Tachibana. Taking the form of a high school, this bizarre dimension is designated to shelter those who died unwanted deaths. Waking up with no previous memories in a dimension between life and death, he discovers the unsettling truth of the afterlife. However, the burning question of what happens to the soul after one dies is soon answered to 17-year-old Yuzuru Otonashi. Even the girl band performance.Death is one of many mysteries that has left humanity in the dark since the dawn of time. but they’re presented rather entertainingly within the context of the story. You have your stereotypes - violent girl silent, mysterious girl smart guy with glasses older, responsible guy knee-jerk reactionist idiot etc. I also want to point out that while I’m usually not a fan of the caught-between-moe-and-grown-up art style, Angel Beats walks that line well, and I like the characters enough so far to stick with it. People have compared the character design and archetypes to Haruhi and Ouran - and while, admittedly, there is some truth to this - Angel Beats appears to have a solid enough mix of laugh-out-loud humour, action sequences and premise to stand by itself. The Afterlife Warfront try to sustain their existence and hold off the Angels at the same time in an attempt to make this world their own keep themselves from being reincarnated or…whatever happens when your soul “moves on.” It’s an interesting premise and I love the idea of a world that appears to operate like a game.
